Weekly Reminders 10/16-20

CLASSROOM SNAPSHOT

Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice relaxing Fall Break! I spent part of my time in Albuquerque, New Mexico where I saw the Balloon Fiesta. The other part of my time, I went to Colorado Springs where I hiked and got to enjoy the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

The kids presented their little 'museum' presentations to our other 3rd grade classes this week. They were so proud of their hard work!

During math, students have been gathering, organizing and analyzing data to plan our Halloween Party decorations and food menu.

Chapped Lips & Dry Hands
WIth the change of weather, I've been noticing a lot of kiddos with dry lips and hands. If you wouldn't mind placing a chapstick and/or lotion in their backpack so they can quickly refresh, that would be great!

Upcoming Gemologist [In-school], November 6
Look for further information coming up soon!

TECHNOLOGY 💻

We tried this new {to them} tool, Readworks.org. As a teacher, I am able to assign leveled, short articles to students that also include comprehension questions and vocabulary work that pertains to that story. We started with reading different fiction stories about sugar and candy.

Weekly Reminders 10/2-6

UPDATES

We had an amazing time {of course} at our Annual Digger Dash Run, 9/29. We swam, I mean RAN, really fast during the race!

Later in the afternoon, we watched Finding Nemo to commemorate the shark theme. I gave them some goldfish as their "prey" to snack on.

Students are working to finish their museum "presentations". We sorted the artifacts that were brought in into categories; Music, Technology, Military, Jobs, Clothing, Fossils, Tools and Sports.

Over the course of the week, they read a fiction and a nonfiction text {chosen and assigned by Ms. Meredith} about the topic of their choosing. Students reflected about their thinking while reading using sticky notes then took their work and wrote a paragraph.

Next, they wrote the main idea and two important details for each text and reflected on why we read multiple texts about the same topic.

They also made scientific observations about the artifacts and included those findings on their poster.

No Regular Homework This Week 10/2-4
Your child is totally telling the truth!

Optional Fall Break Homework 10/6-16 {Due Monday Morning, 10/16}

On Friday 10/6, your student will receive a paper homework packet to complete over break. While this isn’t required, it’s an additional way for your child to keep up with their learning while away from school.

This isn’t supposed to be a stressful experience by any means! Just a fun way for your child to work on something constructive during any down-time they may have.

If they complete the packet, in its entirety, and bring it back to school Monday morning 10/16, then they will be able to participate in my special party.

Just in case the packet gets lost or ruined, I have attached and posted on the 'Homework' tab blog for you to print at your convenience.

Thank you for your help! I am excited to hear all about your child’s break when they return!

2nd Round of Parent-Teacher Conferences Tonight, 10/5

Digger Dash Google Album
We had such a fun time at Digger Dash last Friday!

I created a Google Photo album with the pictures I captured. Please add to the album or email them my way so I can have them for the end of the year video.

***The link to the album is in this same email. I don't want it posted live on the blog. ***

Also, I want to give a shout out to Monique Galasso, Allison Provence and Jamie Pearce with all the help with the banner and shark tooth necklaces given out after the race. Everything turned out so cute for our creative theme!

Ms. Meredith's Classroom Directory, '17-'18

***The link to the directory is in this same email. I don't want it posted live on the blog. *** Complete with phone numbers, addresses, and emails. Perfect for playdates and parties.

Don't see your information? Click here to fill out the form. The responses should update automatically.

Spelling Clarification
In 3rd grade for our spelling rotations, we will be working on the same words for two weeks. We do spelling Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays for a 30-minute time blocks. That means they have 5 days to practice the words and on the 6th day, they take the test in their spelling class.

Don't be alarmed that your child didn't bring home another list. It's the same ones from last week!
