Thank You GRE!

Thank you for the opportunity to let me teach your child and build a relationship with them whether it was this year, or years past. 3rd grade (in my opinion), is the best classroom job to have!

As the school year comes to a close and it's the time to think about next school year, a lot of decisions have to be made. With that in mind, I was offered the opportunity to teach Kindergarten-5th grade STEM/Technology at an elementary school in Cherry Creek.

While it's very hard to leave Gold Rush, which is such an amazing school, I think that this will be a great next step to grow in my professional career as an educator. I appreciate everything that each have your families have done for me and being a part of this community for the past 4 years.

If you need to contact me, you can reach me by personal email: naomimeredith {at} yahoo.com

Have a wonderful summer and I hope to see you around soon!

Headphones
I sent home students' headphones and microfiber clothes yesterday. Please keep these in a safe location as these will be on next year's school supply list.

Market Day, 5/17 {Product Due}, 5/18 {actual event}
Products need to be brought in Thursday, May 17th. Since it starts so early on Friday, we need to make sure the kids are all set up and ready to go before then.

Each family will be getting a total of $30 dollars from me, no matter how many family members are attending. I may be in a different 3rd-grade classroom at the time, so you will need to come and find me to receive the money so I can keep track. This money is to be used to shop from other stores, not to give to your own child.

Class Pizza for Lunch, 5/18
Monique Galasso has graciously offered to buy our class pizza on Market Day for lunch! Your child doesn't need to bring in a lunch that day, unless they aren't a fan of pizza. This is for just our kiddos only. We'll celebrate with families the last week of school. :)

Flash Drives & DVDs, Due May 23rd
I am finishing up our class video with the last few end of the year moments that will pop up this next week. If you would like a copy, I am happy to transfer it to a flash drive and/or DVD that your child can bring to school. I can create as many copies as you would like; it doesn't take me very long.

If you bring in a flash drive, I also include the folders of all the photos as well, just in case you want to print any specific ones. I need these no later than Wednesday, May 23rd!

Weekly Newsletter 4/23-27

Our ladybug larva are finally adults! We will release them outside sometime this week!

In honor of Earth Day, we synthesized information about taking care of our Earth. We used videos, Epic Books and Time for Kids to help gather information. We wrote a reflection and even made a visual representation of our work. You can see your child's work uploaded into Seesaw. On Friday, GRE students got to participate in a school-wide Earth Day sing-along.

This is the last one of the school year! This is a perfect time to stock up on books for the summer. All purchases benefit our classroom library so old books can be replaced and new ones can be added. I've also been trying to get multiple copies of one book so they can be used in our Book Clubs as well.

Check out the 'Book Orders' tab of the blog for ordering information.

Field Trip, Friday, May 4th & Permission Slip Due Monday, April 30th
On May 4, we will be attending Cimarron Middle School for their Science Squad presentations. The 8th graders will be showing us their experiment and teaching our kids different science concepts.

This field trip is free! Please sign the orange permission slip and turn in and have your child bring in a sack lunch. Click here if you need to print another copy.

Last Math Unit and Independent Work Sent Home Last Week
Your child should have brought home the pages from our most current unit that they can use to practice along with some work that they completed individually that pertained to multiplication and division.

I wrote a note {which you can grab another one here} explaining what was done along with what you can do at home to continue to support your child.

Market Day FAQ

Can I work with a partner?
Since this is outside of school and you have about a month to create, it's best if you work by yourself. This hasn't been an issue in years past.

Can I make more than one type product?
Think of one type of product that can have different variations. For example, I've had a student make hair bows. Some were big, some were small, some had jewels. Then, they changed the price based on style, but they were all hair bows.

How many should I make?
About 30-40 is a good number. You can always make more or less.

What are items that ALWAYS made?
Pet rocks, stress balls, slime, and bookmarks are not recommended.  They are overproduced and don't sell well.

How much can I spend of my REAL money to make a product?
$10.00. Be creative and try to find things at home that you already have. You might not have to spend any money at all!

Can I make food? What about lotion and lipgloss?
No based on the vast amount of student allergies.

Do I need to make a poster?
We will make a poster in class.

How am I buying other people's items on Market Day?
You will be earning "play" money in class from your Market Day job and great behavior. Be careful, you can lose money too!

What will my store be set up on?
Your desk, in your classroom. We will set up the day before.

Weekly Newsletter 4/9-13

We are finally finished with CMAS testing! They really did a great job pushing through and trying their best on both the Literacy and Math assessments. To reward their hard work, we watched Disney's newer Cinderella movie, had a pizza party and a fruit roll-up eating competition.

Our study of life cycles has been a lot of fun! We have been exploring this process by studying ladybugs by using many resources with our digital Google Slide notebooks; podcasts, articles, videos, diagrams, maps, models and even live larvae! They haven't completed their metamorphic stage yet. We're still waiting on adult ladybugs

Market Day, May 18th, 8:45-10:15am
{Previously known as Sale Day}

Today your student will be bringing home paperwork {4/10} explaining our upcoming economics unit.  Students will be applying for jobs, interviewing, performing a job, creating a classroom society, earning money, making a product, and selling a product.

Their job application is the first thing that is due.  They must have it on Friday 4/13 in order to interview for their job.  We talked today about how to correctly fill out an application, Including the essay part where they need to write 2-3 paragraphs explaining why the should get the job they want.

The product information page and home interview are due the following Thursday on 4/19.  Hopefully, this will allow for adequate planning time.  The students can use any supplies from home as well as a $10 maximum of supplies bought at the store.  (Pinterest has some very easy, inexpensive ideas for products.)

Pet rocks, stress balls, slime, and bookmarks are not recommended.  They are overproduced and don't sell well.

Spelling
New letters/lists will be sent home this week. We will take the test on Monday, April 23rd.

TECHNOLOGY 💻

To continue our exploration of fairy tale adaptations to help aid us in our writing inspiration, we've been using many different resources. Books, videos and even eBooks. We've pulled up our favorite digital resource, Epic Books, and have been reading the adaptations they've had to offer.

We play music almost every day in writing. Sometimes it's sounds of nature, but sometimes I'll mix it up with the Piano Guys or a Disney Piano playlist. The kids always like to guess the title of the melody being played!
